Life on Batanes

In general, the people on Batanes do not like to be photographed.  So, most of my “life” photos had to be of animals.  You can ask politely for a photo but most people are usually too shy.

Coconuts are good for everyone

On the hoof

Our Fast and Furious jeepney driver, Rey

The local 711 store.  This lady had an impeccable British accent!

Water buffalo at the Caribao Sanctuary.  They are very gentle--but muddy.

A night of music with local singers at our rustic hotel

The day’s catch--a fisherman bringing home dinner near Tukon.

Life is quite relaxed on Batanes--the dogs tend to sit on your seats

Strutting his stuff

Mother and daughter roaming wild among the hills

The principal form of transport on the island--the jeepney--converted WWII jeeps

Sunset just below the lighthouse--both cows and boats are anchored for the night!
